Here Are 6 Necessary Components Of A Drumset

0 comments Posted by ADMIN on Saturday, March 26, 2011

Drumsets consist of 6 different components to make up a regular drumset. There are also additional components that can be added to a standard drumset.

     1. Bass drum. The bass drum usually sits on its side on the floor and is played by stepping on a pedal with the right foot. This drum is generally between 18 and 24 inches in diameter and between 14 and 18 inches deep. Its sound is the foundation of the rhythm of a band, often pounding out the basic pulse of the music or playing along with the bass player’s rhythm.

     2. Snare drum. The snare drum is a shallow drum (typically between 5 and 7 inches deep) that’s 14 inches in diameter and has a series of metal wires called snares, hence the name snare drum stretched against the bottom head. When you strike thedrum, the bottom head vibrates against the snares.

What you hear is a hissing sound. The snare drum creates the backbeat or the driving rhythm that you hear in most popular music;

     3. Tom-tom. The tom-toms are pitched drums that are usually between 9 and 18 inches in diameter. A drumset commonly has at least two, if not three, of them. Generally, the largest tom-tom called a floor tom is set up on the floor with legs that are attached to the shell of the drum. The smaller tom-toms (often called ride toms) are attached to a stand, which extendsup from the bass drum or from the floor next to the bass drum. These drums are used for fills (a fillis a break in the main drumbeat) or as a substitute for the snare drum in some parts of songs.

     4. Hi-hat cymbals. The hi-hats are cymbals that are mounted on a stand, one facing up and one facing down, and are 13, 14, or 15 inches in diameter. The stand has a pedal that pushes the cymbals together (closed) or pulls them apart (opened). Your left foot controls the opening and closing of the hi-hats with the pedal while you hit the cymbals with a stick. The hi-hats can make either a “chick” sound when closed or a “swish” sound when open. You use them with the bass drum and snaredrum to create the basic drum beat.

    5. Ride cymbal. The ride cymbal is an alternative to the hi-hats. Ride cymbals range in size from about 16 inches all the way up to 24 inches across (20 and 22-inch ride cymbals are the most common). The ride cymbal is traditionally used to create a louder, fuller sound than the hi-hats and is often played during the chorus of a song or during a solo.

    6. Crash cymbals. The typical drumset usually has one or more crash cymbals used for accentuating certain parts of the music, usually the beginning of a phrase or section of a song. These cymbals create a sound that resembles a crash. Crash cymbals generally range in size from 14 inches to around 20 inches in diameter.

Galaxy Tab 8.9 Preview

0 comments Posted by ADMIN on Saturday, March 26, 2011

Samsung has achieved a happy medium with its Galaxy Tab 8.9, size-wise. It’s small enough to fit in the side pocket of a businessman’s suit jacket so it’s readily handy, but much larger than the original 7-in Galaxy Tab and nearly as large the iPad 2′s screen. It’s a brilliant “duh” tablet PC size compromise.

The 8.9 also is (slightly) lighter, (slightly) thinner and (slightly) cheaper than iPad 2 . It has higher resolution front and rear cameras than iPad 2, including the welcome repositioning of the front imager from the top of the bezel in portrait mode to landscape, it’s easier to grip than iPad 2 thanks to a ridged rear, and supports Adobe Flash 10.2. In most of its specifications, the 8.9 is more than or equal to iPad 2.

Galaxy Tab 8.9 (left) and iPad (right)

But in their short life as a next-big-thing, tablets have not been about specs – as defined and proved by Apple not once, but twice – it’s about the experience. I got a chance to play with the 8.9 at the CTIA show wrapping up today in Orlando, and found the experience of 8.9 is not nearly as impressive as its specs.

Design and features

Instead of iPad 2′s portrait-centric design, Galaxy Tab 8.9 is more landscape-centric. Like iPad 2, the volume control is on the left perimeter, but so is the on/off button and the 3.5mm headphone jack, which means they’re actually on the top when you hold the 8.9 horizontally. On the left (portrait)/bottom (landscape) is the SIM card tray and the multi-pin proprietary Galaxy Tab jack between the twin stereo speakers.

Galaxy Tab 8.9 has no buttons marring its bezel – all navigation and menu access buttons are located on the touch screen: Back, Home and the Samsung TouchWiz Task Manager touch icons in the lower left of the home screens, app and a customization view (a “+” sign) on the upper right. This means you don’t have to worry about which side the “Home” key is on as you turn it, as you do with the iPad.

As noted, the 8.9 rear is ridged to makes it easier to grip than iPad.

8.9′s best improvement vs. iPad is the repositioning of the camera to the landscape side, which HTC also has done on its new 7-inch View tablet: the HTC Flyer. Both companies have discovered the front camera most often is used for self-portraits, not video chatting, especially groups of people. In fact, while a tablet is usually ridiculously clunky to use as a regular camera, it’s big screen is perfect for catching yourself and your friends partying down. Which means you want a wide view, not a narrow portrait framing.

Sizing Problems

While 8.9′s size is nearly pocket perfect, it’s not so good for typing. With 8.9 in landscape you can touch or two-finger type, but you’ll need to boost it somehow with a case. Since few case makers will be rushing out with 8.9 cases, and Samsung didn’t show one of its own, Samsung missed an ergonomic bet by no installing a kickstand of some sort on the back to create both typing and video viewing angles.

But 8.9 is clearly designed to be whipped out of a pocket like the 7-inch model and typed on while being held – and that’s a problem. You can’t thumb-type (obviously) holding it horizontally unless you have a NBA player’s hand span. You can thumb type holding it vertically, but its badly balanced – 8.9 is so long, its top tends to tip back unless you consciously boost it with the inside of your index fingers while simultaneously concentrating on thumb tapping. But after a few minutes, holding it in this awkward position gets to be painful as well as awkward.

Real Racing 2 HD for iPad 2 Can Support Full 1080p Video Output

0 comments Posted by ADMIN on Saturday, March 26, 2011

Say hello to Firemint’s Real Racing 2 HD, the one of the first iPad 2 games to support full 1080p HD video output without upscaling. When Apple unveiled the iPad 2 earlier this month, it also announced a new iPad HDMI adapter that lets you mirror your iPad 2′s screen to a larger HDTV or monitor. Because the iPad 2 tops out at a 1024×768 resolution screen, the mirrored video would be the same resolution, meaning you’d have unused black bars on the left and right side of the screen. Well, Real Racing HD can run full screen at 1920×1080 when attached to an external display without those annoying black bars. Firemint credits the feature as possible thanks to the iPad 2′s powerful PowerVR SGX543MP2 GPU that can provide nine times the graphics performance over the first iPad. Apple’s already proven that its iOS devices are worthy game platforms, but this just takes the cake. With 1080p high definition games that don’t require upscaling, Apple doesn’t need to release a game console, that $39 HDMI dongle will do just fine in making any iOS device a living gaming hub. Kinect Used to Teach Kids in South Africa

0 comments Posted by ADMIN on Saturday, March 26, 2011

Microsoft’s Kinect is taking the world by storm. Not only have 10 million Kinect’s been sold, but its also gained a slew of unofficial hacks that move it beyond a gaming peripheral. Take for example, Microsoft’s new trial at the Lakeside Park Primary school in Vyrheid, South Africa that is using Kinect to stimulate and encourage school kids to learn English by engaging them in motion-controlled games. The trial is a small case study, but the teachers at Lakeside are already seeing positive results. Lakeside’s Deputy Principal, Karen Kirsten said, “Shy learners, who take months to speak up in class in their mother tongue – let alone in English, were already shouting out to classmates to ‘jump’ and ‘duck’ with no inhibition.” In Japan, Nintendo’s DS has been used to teach children and in the U.S. iPads in the classroom are all the rage, so why not Kinect? Should Microsoft’s project be a success, we wouldn’t be shocked to see Kinect spring up in classrooms across the world.

0 comments Posted by ADMIN on Saturday, March 26, 2011

Tool crib management is one of the most essential functions in any industry, especially the manufacturing industry. It is only with an efficient tool management system that organizations can maintain the longevity of their critical assets, as well as ensure supplies to support production or other operations are available in real-time. Processes must be put in place to ensure that precision tools receive regular maintenance and upgrades and avoid unexpected machinery or equipment breakdowns.

Maintenance departments have to be very careful in handling tool crib management effectively. The world has become a realm of rapid consumerism and high expectations and therefore the promptness of customer specified product deliveries has become the metric to measure success. In order to keep pace with the demands of customers, organizations are implementing tooling strategies that support JIT and mass customization manufacturing goals. All the while, all sectors of the marketplace are under tremendous pressure to keep costs to a minimum, processes lean, and achieve a high return on asset investment.

Manufacturers can regain control over their costs and improve productivity levels by employing effective and flexible tool crib inventory and management solutions. The use of an automated tool crib management solution ensures easy navigation through the various stages of materials storage, valuation, usage, demand, procurement and re-stock.

An effective tool crib management product tracks the lifecycle and use of tools. The product has the capability to manage tools and MRO inventory with integrated barcode functionality. It provides simplified operations for recalibration and inspection purposes. 0 comments Posted by ADMIN on Saturday, March 26, 2011

An Exclusive interview with the directors of Teamglobal Logistics Pvt. Ltd., Mr. Nityam Khosla and Mr. Vivek Kele, who have been the pioneers of consolidation in India and have years of experience in the logistics industry,. Both Mr. Nityam and Mr. Vivek are known internationally for their domain expertise and business acumen. Teamglobal is a logistics company having pan India presence and a strong global network, offering blog.softlinkglobal.com ">Logistics Solutions in various segments of the sector.

Q. How and when was your company started? How has the journey so far been?

Nityam: The Company was formed in the year 2005 with an aim to provide quality service in various segments of Logistics.  The journey so far has been very interesting, challenging and rewarding.

Q. Teamglobal is recognized as a leader in LCL consolidation, are you focusing on specialization in this particular aspect? How do you plan to position yourself in the market?

Vivek: It is flattering when someone says that we are the leaders in www.logisys.in ">LCL Consolidation market, but we feel that there is a long way to go in this segment of logistics. There is lot that can be done in terms of developing linkages in the infrastructure nationally and internationally and make the LCL cargo handling more seamless.  We will continue to focus on this segment and position our self as a first choice LCL carrier for our customers.

Q. The logistics market is crowded with players of all sizes offering cut-throat competition, how have you managed these challenges? What differentiates you from the rest of the competition?

Nityam: In the Indian context price is one of the important driving factors when it comes to buying of a product or a service. We have tried very hard to keep our services very competitive and simultaneously focused on improving the quality of our services to make them more reliable and dependable, so that our customer continue to use us for being competitive in prices and consistent in services.  Our endeavor is to continuously learn and adapt, which means the focus remains on constant and continuous unlearning, learning & relearning.  This results in enhancing customer experience through creation of value.

Vivek: Finding the most efficient and effective way to analyze and develop customer intelligence is a vital part of our customer care initiative. We understand that providing quality service by increasing operational efficiency has a direct correlation to the value we can offer to our clients. Our clients depend on us to provide the highest quality and we are pleased that, we have been able to satisfy them to a large extent. We believe we can deliver a significant competitive advantage to our customers with our unique and focused solutions.

Q. What trends are you seeing with regard to the logistics sector and its strategic importance? How has it evolved over the last decade?
Nityam: The trend in logistic sector has been to outsource, more and more companies are focusing on manufacturing and sales which is their core competence. In fact the large transnational companies are now concentrating only on product development, quality control and marketing, all other activities like manufacturing, warehousing  and distribution are being outsourced.
Vivek:  We see very good opportunities for growth for the forwarding companies, the opportunities are available for logistics companies to explore and execute. Moreover we have seen significant shift in business policy from market share concept to customer satisfaction and retention concept.

Q. Logistics sector is yet to be conferred industry status; do you think this will happen by this budget or near future?  What kind of impact on the inflow of investments do you perceive it will bring about?

Nityam: Not having an industry status for Logistics is a major hindrance its growth in India, we still do not seem to be giving deserved importance to Logistics. Efficient logistic system actually cuts down cost of reaching the goods from the point of manufacturing to the point of sale. It is to be noted that per kg per km transport rate in India are one of the highest in the world. The Indian retail companies are still not giving due importance to logistics; it has been widely perceived that retail sector will be allowed foreign investment in this budget, that will lead to lot of foreign companies coming in who in turn will require professional logistic service provider.

Vivek: The foreign investment will come in, but that will be in terms of equipment manufacturing , we have already seen large truck manufacturers like Man, Leyland and Volvo setting up manufacturing facility in India, we will see more Cargo Handling and container handling equipment companies setting up manufacturing in India, The foreign investment in railways is still eluding us as the rail companies still find the track fees to be paid to Indian railways very high, similarly the warehousing will also not see too much foreign investment due to very cumbersome land acquisition process in India,

Q. There is a dearth of quality manpower in the logistics sector, how does your company tackle this problem? What kind of initiatives have you undertaken to address the issue?

Nityam: There is a huge supply gap in untrained manpower in the logistics sector resulting in high level of inefficiencies. Because of the skill deficiency among operational staff, supervisors and managers the logistics sector is finding it difficult to shrug off the inefficiencies. The evolving business environment is creating a strong demand for quality and efficient logistics services, and with logistics being a service oriented sector, skilled manpower emerges as a key capability. At Teamglobal, Use of technology, continuous training of manpower and constant monitor of Key Performance Indicators is how we have been addressing the issue.

Q.  Logistics involves several activities that require considerable co-ordination and interaction. There are still activities that have not been automated; what are the challenges faced by you in these areas and how do you deal with it?

Vivek: We have www.logisys.in ">EDI linkages with all our overseas agents, we are already submitting our manifest to customs in electronic format and are ready for Ice gate 1.5, we have a full e commerce module on our website and all our major processes all web enabled, we are now working very closely with Soft link to make it possible for the users of soft link to submit their Shipping Instructions to us through their system so as to avoid multiple data entry,

Q. How important is information technology vis-à-vis logistics?

Nityam: It is very important as with IT we are able to give visibility, we always say that the status of the cargo to a customer is like the whereabouts of a child to the mother; we can effectively give the visibility and comfort to the customer through use of IT. IT also cut down wastage in the process and makes the transaction faster.

Q. what are the challenges faced by the logistics sector and how can companies address them? How do you see the scenario five years hence?

Vivek: The challenges faced by the Indian Logistic companies is the keeping with the pace with  the changes in the industry, with globalizations the users are expecting global standard services to be available to them in India, so the Indian Logistics companies have to fast adopt to international standards to cater to the changing business requirements

Q.  What are Teamglobal's future plans?

Nityam: We will stay close to our customers and continue to fine tune our services to meet their expectations. Teamglobal will continue to grow and expand in its core business of LCL consolidation and in time to come air freight, we will deploy technology to give better visibility to our customers.

About This Blog

TecHnooGuide.blogspot.com started as a personal blog in Jan 2011, under the first domain name TechnooGuide.

TechnooGuide aims to provide the latest news about technology and gadgets, social media, computers, and the internet in general to all the people of the world.

Everything just started as a hobby and passion of the editor-in-chief of this blog to write the latest news in the internet, particularly in the field of technology, gadgets, and computers. The simple passion started to get serious as this blog continue to grow.

I’m optimistic the year 2011 would be a success, but of course that wouldn’t happen without you being part of the community. If there’s anything you have to say, I’d love to hear that. Cheers!
