HTC Thunderbolt teardown photos released by the FCC

The FCC Teardown report on the HTC Thunderbolt has appeared online and it shows all the internals of the LTE driven handset. Looking at the various layers of the Thunderbolt, it’s really amazing how much can fit into such a thin, by comparison, package.Images show the 1 Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, iNAND flash memory and SDRAM from Sandisk and Samsung respectively, and all the antenna including CDMA, EVDO, and LTE. In addition, there’s close ups of the Thunderbolt’s GPS antenna, Bluetooth, and WLAN Antenna’s as well.

In other Thunderbolt news, Amazon is putting the Verizon 4G LTE Thunderbolt on sale for $174.95 with a two year Verizon contract. A savings of $75 over the already low price of $249.99. The unsubsidized sale price still lists for around $669, a $30 price cut. That means that users can afford to add the extended battery and still walk away with a pretty good deal.

In addition to the 1 GHz Snapdragon processor, the Thunderbolt 4G enjoys a 2/4″ Super LCD multi-touch display, a pair of cameras including a 1.3 megapixel front facing camera for video chat and an 8 megapixel rear facing camera for HD video recording in 720p. On board memory is courtesy of 8GB RAM and a 32 GB microSD memory card. Dual Microphones enable HTC’s noise canceling technology for clear calls in noisy conditions.

The Thunderbolt comes with Android 2.2 (Froyo) out of the box, but we reported today that it will be updated by late June.

Droid 3 Photos leaked, shows redesigned keyboard

Photos have leaked of what is reported to be the new Motorola Droid 3 sporting a redesigned keyboard. The slide up QWERTY has five rows, rather than the smaller 4 row design featured in the Droid 2. The buttons look fairly large for typing and it’s an impressive outlay considering the phone shown looks fairly thin. There also looks to be HDMI and microUSB ports as well.

But other than that, there isn’t really much to go on. It looks to have a stock 4″ TFT screen, and if were can infer anything from the previous Droid 2 specs and the current state of the Android art, we can probably expect top maybe go up to a qHD screen. And since the Droid 2 runs a Froyo flavored OS, it would certainly need to run Android 2.4 (Gingerbread) at the very least.

Other possible specs to dream about …. maybe maybe boosting to dual core for that 1Ghz processor? Replacing the 5MP camera for a a 8MP camera with full HD recording? Or jump on the dual camera bandwagon? That doesn’t seem likely since the images don’t really show a front facing webcam for video chat. At the very least we’d also expect 4G/LTE connectivity. Guerilla Bob [Review] [Motorola XOOM + Android Handsets]

Lets begin by saying that Guerilla Bob works on lots of different Android devices. It looks fabulous on the XOOM tablet we’ve got sitting here, it looks lovely on the HTC ThunderBolt, and rolls out hard on the ATRIX 4G. The images and video you see below are on the Motorola XOOM tablet of course, as this is the big screen all games like this aught to be tested on, but let me assure you, it works just as well (and in some cases better) on the comparatively small screen. It’s a powerhouse of a fun and simple shooter at just three bucks – skip the review, it rocks like a stick of dynamite attached to an arrow sticking to a bad guy!

 

First Impressions:

This game looks very much like the game Gun Bros., but if I’m not mistaken, Guerilla Bob was created before Gun Bros., and was released on iOS all the way back at the beginning of 2010 for FREE on iOS. Since then it’s been released as a HD version on the iPad, PC, Mac OS, and now Android. In fact, it’s already been tested on the Xperia PLAY – And you know they only put super neato games on that thang.

We just saw a couple pics of the gameplay and noticed that it only cost a few bucks and POW we were at it. This is a game that’s extremely easy to get into, challenging enough to make you want to play for minutes and hours on end, and there’s several modes of play (including a multiplayer mode!) that’ll keep you around for multiple plays. You can even play against your friends who have the iOS version!

  

Gameplay

It’s a game that you use two thumbs for, or if you’re weird, two fingers for. Where when you’re playing Gun Bros you’ve got one finger to move and one finger to aim your gun, Guerilla Bob makes killing bad guys one notch easier by auto-aiming the gun, requiring only that you hold that finger down to fire – but beware! Holding your trigger finger down too long will result in an overheated weapon.

There’s short cinematic moments during the game, quickly showing up then turning back to the game in no time flat. Each of these shows either a boss or a new type of character you’ll be facing for the rest of the game. As they appear, so too will you get a greater chance at finding the guns they’re using against you – I’m not sure if this directly correlates, but it seems like it to me.

 Of course, then there’s mercenary mode where you get money instead of points, and the money you can then spend on bigger and better guns instead of just finding them on the ground. That’s utterly enjoyable and addictive to the max. KILL EM ALL and have a hootin good time doing it – in fact, there’s some what I’d call Duke Nukem-esque war cries littered throughout the game like “TASTE MY BULLETS.”

Wrap-Up

Worth the $3 all day long. Actually it costs $2.99, so it’s just a super deal. The game works great on most Android devices, big and small, and the mix of control and auto-control is really well formulated for mobile. Play it for 10 minutes or play it for 5 hours. It can get repetitive if you get bored murdering bad guys, but if you’re in to that sort of thing, and you like getting bigger and better weapons as you do so, then heck, here’s a game for you! Flash 10.2 Arrives on Android, Brings Flash to Tablets

Adobe has finally released Flash Player 10.2 for Android. Its release marks the availability of Flash for Android 3.0.1 Honeycomb, Google’s OS for tablets.

While Flash 10.2 for Android boasts performance enhancements that improve the experience on mobile, the thrust of this update is to bring Flash to tablet devices like the Motorola Xoom. Adobe says it has been working closely with Google “to ensure tight integration and optimization between Flash Player 10.2 and new OS and browser capabilities.”

The result, Adobe says, is an integrated and fully functional browsing experience. Adobe wanted to make sure a web page with Flash appeared on Android tablets the way it does on the desktop, in the way intended by the page designer.

While Flash 10.2 for Android 2.2 and 2.3 is a production general availability release, Flash 10.2 for Android 3.0 is a beta release. In the next few weeks, Adobe intends to release GA version of Flash 10.2 for Android Honeycomb that enables hardware acceleration and Stave Video support.

Support for Stage Video and hardware acceleration was added to Flash Player 10.2 for the desktop, which was released last month. Combined, these technologies should improve the playback of HD video video and embedded content on tablet devices.

Flash 10.2 for Android 2.2, 2.3 and 3.0.1 is available for download in the Android Marketplace.
