Android Community at CTIA Wireless 2011

0 comments Posted by ADMIN on Monday, March 21, 2011

Android Community is hard at work at CTIA Wireless 2011, the annual mobile confab which this year is in Orlando, Florida. We’re expecting a ton of wireless news including stories on Android phones and even more tablets. In fact, news has already been leaked that AT&T is bringing the Nexus S 4G, with it’s pure Google Android experience, to mobile customers this year along with the LG Thrill 4G and HTC HD7S.

Sprint has already teased that they plan to release a wide range of devices including the 4G HTC Flyer tablet. But they’re also going all in with Google Voice services in a move that will certain have ripples as the confab continues this week. T-Mobile, who recently got swallowed up by AT&T, is still here and are bringing the HTC Pyramid and Doubleshot along with them. And it’s even more important now that AT&T has decided that all T-Mobile customers will have to transition to 4G phones after the merger.

Samsung is going to be launching it’s mid-size 8.9 inch Galaxy Tab here in Orlando, as a part of the 78910 marketing campaign we teased here earlier this month. The campaign clearly means marketing of the entire 7, 8.9 and 10.1 inch line of Galaxy Tabs. And then there’s LG, Nokia, Sony Ericsson and it’s new Xperia Play, and we’re sure tons of tablet stories. So stay tuned for all our show coverage with the CTIA 2011 tag, and of course follow along on the Android Community homepage!

OTA updates for Samsung Epic 4G, Transform and Galaxy Tab coming

0 comments Posted by ADMIN on Friday, March 18, 2011

A pretty strong indication of an over the air (OTA) update to the Samsung Epic 4G, Transform, and even the Galaxy Tab popped up on the interwebs today in the form of a screen shot from Sprint’s website. The intended upgrades includes the Epic 4G moving up to Android 2.2.1 (Froyo) as well as some 2.2 yogurty goodness for the Samsung Transform. Even the Samsung Galaxy Tab joins the Epic 4G and Transform with a little nip and tuck courtesy of a Sprint ID update that will provide for a package of wallpapers, ringtones and apps to bring it up to where the current state of the art is for Sprint and Samsung.

The Spring ID concept, unveiled at CES last January, is ideal for users wanting to change the theme of their handset on the fly without having to do it piecemeal. In addition to the Sprint ID package, other additions include Flash 10.1 on the Epic 4G, and Swype on the Transform. These updates will be over the air (OTA) and will look to be scheduled for a March 21st roll out. Sprint recently suspended Android 2.2 (Froyo) updates to their Epic 4G phones after consumer complaints. It looks as if they’ve ironed out all those issues and are moving forward.
The Epic 4G has a brilliant Super AMOLED display to go with it’s slide out QWERTY, and 1GHz Hummingbird processor. Check out SlashGear’s Epic Review here. The Transform features a 3.5-inch HVGA touch-screen display, slide-out QWERTY keyboard, dual front and rear facing cameras and is powered by an 800 MHz processor. And the Samsung Galaxy Tab has recently enjoyed a nifty price cut to $199 along with free activation.

Verizon waives Xoom and Galaxy Tab activation fees on contracts from March 1st in a limited time offer

In an act of unexpected generosity, Verizon has decided to abandon the activation fee of $ 35 that comes with the purchase of the 3G-equipped Motorola and tablets Xoom Galaxy Tab, leaving customers'wallets a little heavier and a little lighter heart . This change will be effective on a monthly contract from the beginning of this month or later - which means a nice little rebate for anyone purchasing a tablet of Android through the Big Red after March 1 - no But we also heard this will be a limited time offer. Intelligence has been sent through mobile email and Droid-Life Record has also obtained a document that says the same, while we are in the confirmation process ourselves. Anyway, seems sure to get the celebrations underway.

Pioneer Computers outs DreamBook ePad H10 tablet

0 comments Posted by ADMIN on Tuesday, March 15, 2011

I'm not sure why teams Pioneer DreamBook ePad decided to give the H10 a long name. Subtleties about the name on the side of the pill can be interesting for some people shopping for something different to the core offerings. The tablet will run Android 3.0.

It has a 10.1-inch screen with a resolution of 1280 x 800 and has a dual core processor inside Tegra 2. This must mean that the little beast is capable of fighting against Xoom and Galaxy 10.1 Tab equal apparently. Presentation was made in Australia, where it will arrive in the middle of April.

The price is AUD $ 699, which gives about $ 705 here. Australians are accustomed to being sprayed onto the price of gear and none of them will tell you that the price we pay here in the U.S. is often much cheaper than the direct conversion price. I hope that will happen when / if DreamBook land here or it will not do well.
