Experimenting with beta drivers isn't for the faint of heart, especially when it comes to videocards. After all, this is your pricey GPU we're talking about, and a poorly coded driver can wreak all kinds of havoc, from instability to artifacting, to even overheating if the fan doesn't kick on when it's supposed to. That said, if you're down for playing with pre-release drivers, Nvidia has made available its GeForce 270.51 driver set in beta form.
The new 270.51 beta drivers add support for the recently released GeForce GTX 590, GTX 560 Ti, and GTX 550 Ti videocards. In addition, Nvidia says you can expect performance gains versus the 266.58 drivers when using GeForce 400 series and 500 series GPUs. Some of these are truly massive, such as up to 516 percent better performance in Dragon Age 2, though in a very specific situation (SLI, 2560x1600, 8xAA/16xAF, Very High, SSAO on).
Also new to the 270 series of drivers (and later), Nvidia Update will keep your PC up-to-date with the latest graphics card drivers by notifying you when a new driver is available.
